Description

They are fascinating plants. Insects are attracted to their sweet smelling nectar secretions and colouration. The slippery rim (peristome) and inner walls of the pitcher encourage insects to fall into the digestive fluid at the bottom of the trap. Nutrients are absorbed from this liquid.

CARING FOR YOUR NEPENTHES (Pitcher Plant) Only water with rainwater or distilled water. Always keep very moist during the summer, don’t let it dry out.
Likes bright diffused light & a warm humid environment. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the plant. Can be kept outside, but need to come in before the weather gets too cold.
The traps do not need filling with liquid, they will fill themselves. It will get nutrients from the insects it digests, but will benefit from a half strength feed of orchid food twice a month in summer and once a month in winter.
Cut off the pitchers/traps as they die. Give just a little water over winter. You can then cut the plant back, or leave to grow. It will tend to grow slightly spindly. So cut out the growing tip in spring. This encourages it to produce larger leaves and pitchers.
